Zoltan Almasi was born on 29.8.1976. He earned his grandmaster title in 1993 when he was only 17 years old, that same year he won the world U18 championship. He is an eight time hungarian champion (1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008). At the FIDE world championships (played with the knockout system) in 1997 (Groningen) and 2004 (Tripolis) he got into the round of 16. His rating broke the 2700 barrier in the November 2009 FIDE rating list, and the highest rating he achieved was 2726 achieved in the July 2011 FIDE rating list. In 2010 he managed to enter the world top 10. He has been on the Hungarian national team since 1994, with them he won a bronze medal at the chess olympiad (Bled 2002) and at the European team championship he earned a silver (Batumi 1999) as well as a bronze medal (Greece 2011), In Greece he also achieved an impressive 6/8 score. He won several international tournaments including: Max Gyorgy (2005), Reggio Emilia (2007/08), the 2010 European rapid championship. He has also enjoyed great success with Fischer chess (chess 960) where in 2004 he won the very strong FINet chess 960.
